National Trails Day 2011 - Green Loop Trail Opening


The Green Loop Trail (An Chonair Choirclach Glas) is a 36km multi-use trail that is being opened for all to enjoy on the 2nd of October.

The trail extends from the Dublin City (Phoenix Park) right out to Lucan in Co.Kildare along the Royal Canal and back into the War Memorial and Phoenix Parks along the Grand Canal Way. It links some of the most scenic parks and green spaces in the Greater Dublin region including the Phoenix Park, St. Catherine’s Park, Lucan Demesne, Griffeen Valley Park, Liffey Valley Park and the Irish National War Memorial Park.

The trail is only being open for one day initially, on the 2nd October to celebrate National Trails Day 2011. Depending on public interest it may be opened as a permanent trail at a later date.

A number of events are being organised in various parks along the trail and the Green Loop Trail Cycle which is being organised by the National Trails Office / Irish Sports Council. Details of this and all other events events being organised on the trail can be viewed on the website www.nationaltrailsday.ie

In addition to these events, clubs, companies, community groups etc are also invited to organise their own events on the trail and people are encourage to explore wither part or all of the trail either on foot, bike etc with family and friends on the day.
