Bridge Repaired at Glensoulan (December 2011)
The bridge over the Dargle River at Glensoulan has been repaired.
The Wicklow Way Partnership coordinated the repair. This is the first repair and maintenance work done by the Group.
A machine operator placed two new steel RSJ stringers across the river on Friday, 09 December and placed the original bridge structure on top of these. Consequently the bridge span is longer than before the damage. A group of Mountain Meitheal Volunteers placed new boards across the new section and repaired the approaches to both sides of the Bridge on Saturday, 10 December.
This is a very important and much used means of crossing the Dargle on the Wicklow Way and its good to have it up again, especially for the busy Christmas and New Year period. Many thanks to the team for co-ordinating the repair.
