This pleasant community walk takes the walker around the village of Knockcarron on very quiet tarred roads, with a lasso section circling through vegetated farm lanes and fields, offering some points of cultural and historic interest with good views over the surrounding countryside.

Signage was sufficient (blue arrow on black post) and the historical points of interest (Ailbe's rock and the site of the Lackelly Ambush) were nice, but the walk was spoiled for me by a portion that was very muddy, and had long grass and uneven ground (deep holes where cow prints sunk into the mud). I do not plan to return.

Fantastic, history filled walk. If you add on the Golden mile right beside it you can bring the whole thing up to 10k. Quiet roads, tracks and fields add up to make this something special. Waymarking is very poor and it would be great to see this remedied.

Don't be put off by the short distance, it makes up for it in terms of History Boards, the views Knockcarron Hill of the Galtees. While most of this is on roads, some is on bohreens & double ditches...which were muddy in places as I did it in Winter after the floods of 2015. If you pick the right time, the hair will stand on the back of you neck when you hear the local Scarteen Hounds baying before feeding time.
