This loop follows forestry road as it ascends to the top of Kilbrannish Hill and on to Croaghan with its standing stone. The route offers wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, with particularly fine views from the summit of Croaghaun over the plains of Carlow with Myshall and Tullow spread out below.

A lovely walk. Not what I would regard as strenuous. Path ruined by scrambler bikes. At least 7 bikes there at the same time as us. Noise pollution, air pollution - disappointing that this is permitted - or is it??
Wouldn't return. Coillte sign warns of bringing your dog and the potential impact on wildlife. No wildlife to be seen and it's not surprising!

There are two looped walks here and lots of opportunities to walk on the other forest roads which are not part of the signposted routes. One loop is a short 3 km walk and is described as moderate. Then other is 5 Km and described as strenuous. They offer great views of Mt. Leinster and the surrounding countryside. The RTE John Murray walk took place in this area and can be walked from here if desired. More information and photographs can be found here.
