Description of Trail
This section of the old Limerick to Tralee railway in West Limerick, which has been redeveloped as a walking and cycling trail, is downhill until it starts to run parallel to the River Allaghaun where it levels out. It begins on a dedicated roadside tarmac cycleway alongside the N21, shortly regaining the railway. The route is pleasant, passing through cuttings, embankments and under two stone bridges with a stretch through tranquil Tullig Wood. Across the N21 and not on the actual trail, the Barnagh tunnel area includes features of railway heritage. There may be gates across the trail at which cyclists will have to dismount.
