This loop follows woodland trail and forestry track in an ascent through Aherlow Nature Park and Ballinacourty Woods. It traverses the southern shoulder of Slievenamuck offering the walker some beautiful views to the Galty Mountains across the Glen of Aherlow.

Along the track towards Aherlow House Hotel there may be a fallen tree blocking the trail

Lovely 10k walk today, mostly through forestry, trail well marked, a couple of uphill drags that will get the heart rate up and damp underfoot on these. Took 2.05 to complete including a 10 minute pit stop for a bite to eat! Very enjoyable!

I walked this trail on 3 April 2018.

Good views of the Galtee mountains on the first part of the trail. I can imagine that as the year progresses, thicker vegetation may inhibit this.

My GPS recorded 5.9 Km, which I complete in 1h33' at a brisk pace. That's 4.1 Km less that the claimed 10 Km, so I compared my GPS recording to the map (https://www.discoverireland.ie/activities-adventure/ballinacourty-loop/74076)...my GPS recording looks complete, so which distance is correct?

29th July, 2013. This is a lovely walk, though be prepared for several ascents along the way. Underfoot conditions were good, while the trail is very well marked along the way. Be careful, though, in that a number of the signposts are sited after the junction!

We began the loop at the Aherlow House Hotel and it provides an excellent opportunity to recover your energies at the end, with tea and scones, and fantastic views across to the Galteemore mountains. Be careful, though, if using local map routes in that the hotel is shown on the wrong side of the road. It caused us some confusion before we finally got going!
