This loop follows blue arrows on old cattle road, firebreak, sandy road, forest road and riverbank, mainly in forestry. It travels in a clockwise direction with some climbing and some descent looping around the southern slopes of a hill in the scenic and relatively isolated lowlands of the Nephin Beg Mountains. The section along the firebreak is soft underfoot and may be prone to waterlogging in wet weather.

Lynn from Mayo

Excellent walk, with beautiful scenery. The walk is very well marked with a choice of 3 different length trails. We chose the shorter walk (Bothy Loop) on this occasion. The drive up to the walk took us past Feeagh Lake which was a brilliant place to stop off for a coffee. We were blessed with beautiful weather on the day (March 15th 2014), and although the ground underfoot was boggy in parts, for the main part of the walk it was easy going. Our dog came along with us, but was kept on a lead at all times as there were sheep all around. The first part of the walk is along a small river, then over a metal bridge to an old cattle road, and finally across the river again to a forest track.
